A North Korean aircraft was stopped at Don Mueang airport on the way to Iran. Where authorities searched and found nuclear weapons. The plane was said to have had 35tones of arms on it http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/dec/13/north-korea-arms-smuggling-plane. Us and UN investigators say it is a global North Korean smuggling network. The men carrying the plane were all taken in and questioned then later released after no evidence was found that they had any part of knowledge of the weapons. Both North Korean and Iran have denied there knowledge of the weapons on the plane to http://www.boston.com/news/world/middleeast/articles/2010/02/02/iran_denies_link_to_weapons_seized_in_thailand/. Both have been stated in saying they have nothing to do with the weapons or have any knowledge of how they got on the plane. Also speculation is that the plane could have been headed to Pakistan or Afghanistan .My problem with this is that I don't have a clue of how a plane leaves a place and without them having knowledge of what is on the plane being that they are a part of the plane crew. It’s suspected that North Korea knew what was on the plane and they were not expecting to get caught. How does Iran not know what is on the aircraft's coming into their area? Is another question that needs to be answered? I believe that North Korean and Iran were working together on a secret operation that happens to get derailed.
The other problem is what was the real need for these weapons. The new articles only stated about how everybody that was involved with the plane denied there knowledge of the weapons. So to me it sounds like a lot of sneaky lying going on underneath about these weapons. Because no plane is just going have 35tones of weapons on it and nobody knows anything about it. Especially after 9-1-1 here there should be better knowledge of nuclear weapons and the carriers of the weapons.
The issue at hand is that for the 5th time this year an aircraft was found with nuclear weapons on it. This is an issue that affects the world. How can anybody live and feel safe in their country when there is UN accounted for nuclear weapons being smuggled and shipped around by undefined people. Yes the weapons were seized and found as stated in this article but the article leaves with a bigger question at hand. The investigators don’t really know who is controlling this weapons and what the use for these weapons are. This story is example of why the issue at hand is much bigger than just weapons being found in Thailand. This affects surrounding areas and everywhere because it not clear where the weapons actually came from meaning that could have came from anywhere. Only time will tell what’s really going on with all these nuclear weapons being shipped around. Hopefully investigators continue to work to get to the bottom of this situation before something major happens.
